Best Photo Spots at Yapahuwa
Yapahuwa is especially rewarding for photography because the site changes character as you move from forested base to carved stone staircase to open summit views.
1. The Lion Staircase
This is the essential shot. Arrive early for softer light on the carvings and fewer people in the frame.
2. The upper terraces
Once you climb higher, look back across the staircase line and fortress stonework. These angles show how the site was designed around ascent and defense.
3. The summit outlook
Wide shots from the top are best in the early morning or late afternoon, when the plains and reservoirs catch more texture and contrast.
4. Cave temple approach
Photograph respectfully around shrine spaces. The quieter lower areas give you a different mood from the fortress climb above.
